Subway, Mosley Street

Meal: Foot-long Steak and Cheese, w/ lettuce, tomato and mayo (no drink or snack)

I was actually a little disappointed with my lunch today, its been a while since I last visited Subway and I think its going to be another while before I do again. The steak was chewy and tasted a little bland and the bun was over toasted to the point it started to disintegrate when I picked it up. At over £5 for just the sandwich, I actually feel a little robbed! The only upside to this disaster of a lunch was that the lettuce and tomato was fresh and very enjoyable, but if I wanted a tasty salad, I would have ordered one.

I could probably put this down to the lunchtime rush as it was a little busy in there and had to queue for 5 mins or so before I made my order but that’s not an excuse for rushing and spoiling a customers meal.

Completely agree subway is NOT value for money. Been nearly a year since I last visted a Subway outlet. The times I have been the sandwiches have been horrible.

Fellas, Subway is incredible. It seems you are merely making some schoolboy errors with your orders and your firmness with the sandwich artists. A good trip to Subway, especially in Manchester, is all about four things: location, location, location and telling the sandwich artist EXACTLY what you need: you most certainly don’t need a cheese steak. Get yourself to a different branch and eat those words.

Location??? Location??? Location??? If you are saying we should look further afield then you’re missing the point of the website, I have visited the Subway on Piccadilly train station and it was equally as bad. How far out of the city centre do we have to venture??
If you have to limit your choice of only few options off the menu, then treat the “artist” (as you put it) as if you’re training a three week old puppy how NOT to ruin the new carpet in the living room, you’re comment only backs up the statement of how poor the subway in questions is and subway in general.
You’re input is very much appreciated and adds to the purpose and value of this website. I have changed my mind and will visit a subway outlet in the near future to determine who is correct.
My challenge to you Don is to try another sandwich based outlet to see how subway compares. I recommend Go Italy in the Arndale, same idea as subway, but far more rewarding (smaller portions than subway though).
I look forward to future comments from you Don.

‘Sandwich Artist’ is what they actually call the workers in Subway but seriously, I used to have a blacklist of Subways in Manc – about four or five shops right in the centre, correct? I’ve also been all over the show eating a hellacious amount of sandwiches, and I still genuinely rate Subway as long as I stick with the decent fillings (mainly meatballs and the BMT).

Unfortunately, right now I’m in a far-flung place where I can’t get a truly decent sandwich, whether it’s from a chain or a supermarket or an independent shop… but I love the idea of this site! I’d be interested to see a review of the Quiznos sub place if it’s still there in the Printworks, if I remember right.

what has happened to subway.. a few years ago it was a frequent place to stop for a lunchtime treat.. and we always used to see a few being eaten in the office..

I’ve had 1 this year I think.. and it wasn’t amazing. For me now when I think of subway I think expensive.. as gavlar mentioned over £5 for just the sandwich… yeah that’s for the footlong but take a 6in version and a drink and cookie and theres not much change from £5.. the £1.99 sub of the day is better value.. but i never seem to go on a day that’s doing a sub I really want..

I don’t think its been the same since that “toasted” tax came about… Spar’s £2.99 meal deal win’s every time…

@Don Eduardo some good points made there, in the interest of fairness I will pop Subway back onto my list to review again.

I suppose the problem with franchises like subway is that the “experience” is probably going to be different in each one as they are essentially different shops just with the Subway sign above the door and a rule book (more guidelines I imagine).

I think the trick to a good sub is going to be to avoid the toaster and anything that is pre-cooked, maybe I’ll go for the tuna…

I think the BMT is £2 sub o’t’ day on Thursdays, but other than that I would rarely choose to enter “the world’s fastest growing fast-food chain”.

In fact, 2009 was the last time I did in a Subway. Maybe I’ll have to munch my way through one again soon, purely for review purposes of course. Not managed to rate anywhere just 1 star for everything yet . . .
